Hug Home Comforts: pumpkin pie for dogs

Across the pond (and in some households here, too) Thanksgiving has arrived, bringing with it festive gourds, fun, and, of course, feasting aplenty. What better way to include your canine than to whip up this tasty pumpkin pie for dogs?

A twist on the classic dessert, it manages to pull off being sweet, moreish, and healthy, all at the same time. It’s a Thanksgiving miracle.

Pumpkin pie for dogs ingredients

The ingredients you need

Makes 10 mini pumpkin pies

1 banana
1 pumpkin
2 eggs
300g rolled oats
3 tbsp natural yoghurt

Making the cases for your pumpkin pies

Preheat the oven to 180C 
Blend the rolled oats into a flour using a blender
Whisk 2 eggs and mix in with the oat flour to form a dough 
Flour a muffin tin (this prevents sticking)
Press the dough into the muffin tin to form the bases
Bake for 20 mins or until slightly browned

While the bases are baking…

Time to make the filling – the best part of any good pumpkin pie for dogs.

Cut the pumpkin up into chunks, removing the seeds and skin
Keep some of the seeds and pop them in a baking tray alongside the pumpkin
Bake the pumpkin until it’s soft and the seeds are toasted
Blend the cooked pumpkin with a little water to make a purée
Blend or mash your banana until puréed
Mix the puréed pumpkin and banana together

Decorating pumpkin pie for dogs

Once the bases are cooled, fill them with your delicious pumpkin and banana puree.

Finish off your mini pumpkin pies by topping each with a dollop of natural yoghurt, then decorate with your toasted pumpkin seeds.
